He gives the slavers a false location and fights them with a small team of Knights. When they say they won't fight, he chooses to fight for them. Drift then tells the "Knights", they refuse to fight, or go along with Drift's plan to ambush the slavers. "The New Crystal City" receives a coded transmission they can't understand, but Drift recognizes it and goes out to make a deal with the slavers who beat him up earlier, to try to get off the planet in exchange for the city's location. Drift complains he cant fight without guns, so Wing trains Drift in combat and swordplay. After he is rebuilt, Wing tells Drift he can't leave until he can beat Wing in unarmed combat. Wing takes him back to the hidden city, "The New Crystal City" and the Cybertronian "Knights" there rebuild him. Drift tries to run off to the ship first and ditch Wing, and the slavers kick his butt.

Wing wants to free the slaves and Drift wants a ship to escape the planet. Drift and Wing team up to fight some slavers. When Wing asks his name, he's vulnerable and alone and afraid they might recognize the name Deadlock, so he tells them he is Drift. The first warrior he met, "Wing" seems to want to rehabilitate him, trying to teach him the ultimate cause in life is to protect and serve those weaker than you. There, he encountered a warrior from an ancient and unaffiliated sect of Cybertronians, who embraced samurai-style code, and refused to fight in the great war for Cybertron, choosing instead to leave Cybertron and live in their hidden city. At some point he was thought to have died but actually escaped when Turmoil tried to capture him by jumping into an escape pod and making planetfall. Soon he developed a name as a Decepticon warrior who Megatron named Deadlock, known for having slaughtered many Autobots.
He joined up with the Decepticons because they didn't want to be helpless. In a rage Drift found he was good at beating people up. His friend Gasket died in an accident when "Drift" grabbed a security officer's gun and it went off. Canon Immigrant: Lockdown makes his IDW debut, his character having been created in Transformers: Animated and his design imported from the Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen toyline.In the past, Drift started out as a common citizen of Cybertron, who was starving while his government ignored his plight.Sadist: Braid clearly enjoys hurting others and seems to like playing cruel mind games.Though that still doesn't save him in the end. Pragmatic Villainy: He's a monster true, but he's also not stupid.Hero Killer: He kills Wing, this does not sit well with Drift.Faux Affably Evil: Is capable of speaking and acting quite politely, key word is "acting".The Dreaded: Even his own men are afraid of him.A Pupil of Mine Until He Turned to Evil: Inverted with Drift/Deadlock having once been his lieutenant.Non-Action Guy: He's a civilian, not a soldier.Morality Pet: Kept Drift from going off the rails, his death sent Drift over the edge into villainy.Gut Punch: His death at the hands of Autobot cops.Papa Wolf: Best shown when he flies into a rage after Wing is killed.He also towers over most other Cybertronians. Large and in Charge: A benevolent example he's the leader of the Circle of Light.The Fundamentalist: A benevolent example.Big Good: Of the Circle of Light faction.BFS: He owns a large Energy Weapon based blade.A Father to His Men: He cares very deeply for the people of New Crystal City.Mostly do to dying before he gets the chance. Wide-Eyed Idealist: And unlike many other characters in the comic franchise, one who manages to not become a Knight in Sour Armor.Mysterious Past: Little of his past was explained in "Drift".
